Soja Martial Arts

Soja Martial Arts Studio

Soja came to me for an identity and web site. The goals were to appeal to both men and women, and to project the atmosphere of the studio: calm, centered, fun, energetic, alive. I created the logo with the orange circle and the gray box to embody these attributes in a modern way. The logo then became the basis for the web site. The gray rectangle both defines the web page and represents the space of the studio itself.

Habitat Media

Habitat Media makes films about environmental and social problems, including award-winning films about the oceans. In other words, just my type of client. They needed a quick and painless redesign of their web site, including flash-based slideshows of stills from their projects.

DRAM

DRAM is a scholarly online collection of recordings of the works of 20th century American composers. I did graphic design, information architecture and interaction design on this site, as part of Keating/Rusch consultants.

webcast.berkeley

Webcast.berkeley is a service offering lectures and special events to the campus via live streaming video and audio. Events are archived on the website in various formats and organized for easy access. Students and the public can then view a lecture or event that they missed, or perhaps review difficult material before an exam. I did architecture, interface and graphic design for this site.

Seismic Skate Systems

Seismic is a skateboard products company. I designed their logo and website.

McKinsey: The War for Talent

Interactive tutorial on business trends for McKinsey, the consulting firm. The audience for this website was the CEOs of Fortune 500 companies. Though the material was complex, we succeeded in keeping them engaged in the site for an average of 20 minutes a sitting, exceeding expectations for a busy CEO. I did information architecture/interaction design, not graphic design, on this site, while consulting for Razorfish. Two examples of my initial wireframe schematics are also shown.

Fan-Jian Chinese Character Conversion Tutor

Typical of the kind of educational multimedia projects I worked on at UC Berkeley in the 1990s, 'Fan' and 'Jian' are the words for simplified and full-form character sets in Chinese. This software helped students master Chinese characters by understanding the form-based conversion principles between the two character sets, something that could really only be taught visually. I did all interaction and graphic design on this project (despite not reading Chinese myself!).
